The initial stage saw the construction of a five-storey clinical services building, named the STAR building (surgical, theatres, anaesthetics and recovery).

Stage 1 included eight new theatres, peri-operative spaces, three inpatient units and a new sterilising services department. The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Redevelopment Stage 1 also included a new Clinical Services Building, a pathology service and accommodation for new supply.

Approximately 100 additional car park spaces were provided as part of this project.
